ItineraryDepart: 7.30 a.m. Return: 5.00 p.m.
Depart Alice Springs, and travel past the rugged West MacDonnell Ranges. Continue through the vast Owen Springs Reserve, many parts of which are impassable except by 4WD vehicle, and see the sandy rivers and rocky gorges. Stop at Finke River, one of the world's oldest rivers, for morning tea in scenic surrounds. Reboard your 4WD as your adventure into Finke Gorge National Park continues. Tucked away in this 46,000 hectare park you'll find the oasis of Palm Valley. It is home to a diverse range of plants such as the Livistona Mariae palms and ancient cycads that flourish along the creek bed, as well as the exceptionally rare Red Cabbage Palm that can only be found in Palm Valley. Take the time to explore Cycad Gorge or climb to the top of the valley. Continue on to Kalarranga Lookout. Take a short walk for views over the red sandstone formation. Leaving here, head to historic Hermannsburg and tour the community's art gallery. Constructed as a mission for Aboriginal people in 1877, Hermannsburg is now known for producing works by world-famous Aboriginal artists, including the late Albert Namatjira and the Hermannsburg Potters. Return to 'The Alice' and transfer to your hotel. Lx1
