Arrive in Kununurra and transfer to your hotel. Spend the remainder of the day exploring the local township of Kununurra - the gateway to the Kimberley.
Day 2 Wed. Mitchell Plateau, Rock Art, Mitchell FallsStay: APT EXCLUSIVE! Mitchell Plateau, Ungolan Wilderness Lodge
Fly to Mitchell Plateau and head to APT's exclusive Ungolan Wilderness Lodge for breakfast. Take a guided walk to Mitchell Falls and visit hidden Aboriginal rock art sites, Merten Falls and see ancient Aboriginal burial mounds. Then perhaps swim at Mitchell Falls. In Geikie Gorge National Park, join the local ranger for a guided cruise of the gorge, with its striking limestone walls created by the gorge's annual flooding during wet season. This is one of Australia's most spectacular waterways and home to an abundance of wildlife, including freshwater crocodiles, fruit bats, wallabies, dingoes and many species of bird. Travel to Windjana Gorge National Park where a short walk leads in to the gorge. See ancient marine fossils embedded in the gorge walls. Look out for freshwater crocodiles and native birds. Inspect the Boab Prison Tree where Aboriginals were held when they resisted European control, and visit Derby's striking circular wharf. Bx1
